Billing and Babies…OH MY!!!

I hear from midwives so often what SCARES them the most about running a midwifery practice. It typically is the answer of being sued or billing insurance companies. It is a complicated, tedious process that I know of few midwives that like the challenge to get paid what we are worth.

The billing and coding system is complicated. Midwives that run their own practices and bill out of hospital care have unique codes and setting charges to learn compare to typical medical practices. Most CNMs that work for hospitals have a biller do all the charging and processing of claims on their behalf. Not private practices. If you want to get paid, you have to be cash which is hard to do in today’s expensive health care system or be part of this spooky process. I think today would be a great day to go over common billing mistakes that midwives and other health care professionals make.
