Think and Grow Rich: Midwife Business Owner Must
Read
One of the most influencial books I have ever read were, “Think and Grow Rich,” by Napoleon Hill. I was in a very low point in my life and NEEDED a change. I was sick and tired of the health care system and bigger financial systems telling my how to run my midwifery practice. I wanted quality to shine through and quantity dictated by massive overhead administration costs made me create the maternity assembly line I dreaded so much.
From struggles in life comes triumphs. People get either let life beat them down and have a “poor, pitty party” for themselves or they rise to the occasion and become something better than yesterday. I did just that. I spent over a year taking a break from running midwifery businesses. I did some soul searching, spending more time with family, and teaching myself a different path of education: philosophy and financial awareness. I took business classes, real estate investing class (that is how the rich made money so I needed to join the van wagon), wealth classes, midwifery certification courses, and parenting classes. I wanted a different life. I still had a dream of running a tiny Amish birth center in my tiny, rural community. I still had a dream of creating a birth center franchise that would bridge the high overhead costs of health care businesses while still creating to the community a personalized experience during birth.
“Think and Grow Rich” was one of the first books I read on my new life transition. It was highly recommended when discussion about wealth creation and finding your life’s purpose.
Think and Grow Rich was written in 1937 by Napoleon Hill, promoted as a personal development and self-improvement book. Hill writes that he was inspired by a suggestion from business magnate and later-philanthropist Andrew Carnegie.
While the book’s title and much of the text concerns increasing income, the author insists that his philosophy can help people succeed in any line of work, to do and be anything they can imagine. First published during the Great Depression, the book by Hill’s death in 1970 had sold more than 20 million copies. By 2015 more than 100 million copies had been sold worldwide.
It remains the biggest seller of Napoleon Hill’s books. Business Week magazine’s Best-Seller List ranked it the sixth best-selling paperback business book 70 years after it was published. Think and Grow Rich is listed in John C. Maxwell‘s A Lifetime “Must Read” Books List.
