I am so grateful to have my own schedule, dictate what my mission and care will be like, and how my business will morph with time. There is nothing wrong with working for a hospital or another midwife, but being a business owner has its additional perks. There are more responsibilities and accountability as a private midwife, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Some of the many perks are getting to see my kids and husband so much more. I get to make more money than I thought ever possible. I get to meet the most amazing families choosing the alternative birth practices that I cherish and deeply admire. I get to help fight for out of hospital births and midwives all over the United States!
What are you Thankful for This Year?
Is it deciding to become a midwife? Deciding to stop working for the hospital and start your own Midwifery Business? Is it just living life and enjoying your well established home birth client list? I thank my supportive family all the time for letting me live my dreams of being a midwife.
I wouldn’t be able to do such a good job caring for others if I didn’t have my family’s strength. My oldest son admires his mom being a midwife and wear a supportive midwife shirt anytime he can (greatest nine year old ever)!
Thank your clients for choosing your services. Thank your staff for staying with you during the good and bad waves of the business start up. Thank your partner for watching the kids when you have to rush for a birth. Thank your kids for being so flexible with games and events that babies needed you for instead.
Take some time to slow down life, cherish the now and little things in your life. Positive affirmations are very powerful in personal and business ventures. Be your own advocate and make a list of everything you are thankful for in your life. Midwives have a blessed calling and get to be part of birth as our income to support of our families and communities. Who has a better career than a midwife???
